Digimon: How Powerful Is Dynasmon? Royal Knight Fireball Analysis

Digimon Frontier episode 38

The Royal Knights represent the elite order of Digimon, existing at a level beyond standard Mega-level Digimon (Ultimate in the original Japanese version). Each member possesses a distinct specialization: UlforceVeedramon is known as the fastest among them, Examon stands as the physically strongest, and the focus of this post—Dynasmon—is recognized for having some of the most destructive attacks.

In Episode 38 of Digimon Frontier, Dynasmon unleashes an attack that generates a massive fireball spanning hundreds of kilometers in radius. The scale of this explosion suggests a level of power far beyond typical Mega-level feats.

To estimate the diameter of the fireball, we will overlay the explosion frame with an image of Earth, using the assumption that the Digital World and Earth are portrayed as having comparable planetary dimensions—a common visual representation throughout the franchise.

Fireball Scaling and Energy Estimation

To determine the size of the explosion, we scale the image using Earth as a reference.

  • Earth’s diameter: 12,742 km = 12,742,000 meters = 1,800 px
  • Fireball diameter: 200 px = 1,415,780 meters
  • Fireball radius: 707,890 meters
  • Fireball height: 42 px = 297,362 meters
  • Fireball area: 1,570,321 km2 (1.57e12 m2) For comparison, this is 2.8 times the continental area of France (~550,000 km²).

  • Explosion Time:  1.2 seconds to reach maximum size

  •  Explosion Speed = 707,890/1.2 ≈ 590,000 m/s (Mach 1720).

Using the Sedov–Taylor scaling law (as in the WarGreymon analysis):

E=1.2×707,89051.22
E = 1.2 \times \frac{707,890^5}{1.2^2}

E1.48×1029 joulesE \approx 1.48 \times 10^{29} \text{ joules}

This equals approximately:

  • 35 billion megatons of TNT
  • 35 exatons

For comparison, the estimated gravitational binding energy required to destroy the Moon is:

1.2×1029 joules  (29 exatons)1.2 \times 10^{29} \text{ joules} \; (29 \text{ exatons})

This means Dynasmon’s attack, under this method, reaches Moon-destruction levels of energy. This fits very well with the feats presented during the series.

Another way to determine this would be to use the volume of the fireball., According to official profiles, Dynasmon’s attack can reach temperatures comparable to a stellar core, Notably, similar feats are shown in Digimon Xros Wars, and even Aldamon—whom Dynasmon defeats with ease—produces attacks described as having solar-core density and temperature. Therefore, we can estimate the energy from a thermal perspective as well

  • Star core temperature: 15,000,000 °C

  • Fireball Radius: 707,890 meters

  • Fireball high: 297,362 meters.

The volume of a dome with these dimensions is 247,832,726,068,303,970 m³ (247 quadrillion m³).

To estimate the mass of the fireball, we use the density of air:

ρ=1.225 kg/m3\rho = 1.225 \text{ kg/m}^3

Although part of the ground beneath the explosion would also be vaporized, we will first calculate the energy required to heat the surrounding air alone.

Using the previously calculated dome volume:

V=2.48×1017 m3V = 2.48 \times 10^{17} \text{ m}^3

M=VρM = V \rho

M=(2.48×1017)×1.225M = (2.48 \times 10^{17}) \times 1.225

M3.0×1017 kgM \approx 3.0 \times 10^{17} \text{ kg}

This represents the mass of air raised to stellar-core temperatures.

The specific heat capacity of air is:

c=1005 J/kg*Kc = 1005 \text{ J/kg·K}

Applying the thermal energy formula:

Q=McΔTQ = M c \Delta T

Q=(3.0×1017)×1005×15,000,000Q = (3.0 \times 10^{17}) \times 1005 \times 15,000,000

Q4.5×1027 joulesQ \approx 4.5 \times 10^{27} \text{ joules}

This corresponds to approximately:

  • 1.07 billion megatons of TNT
  • ~1 exaton of TNT

While this result is lower than the Sedov–Taylor estimate (~35 exatons), it still represents an astronomically high level of energy.

Compared to WarGreymon (Adventure) and ShineGreymon (Savers), the difference in scale is enormous. However, this magnitude fits well within the tier portrayed for the newly introduced Royal Knights in Digimon Frontier, whose power scaling is shown to be dramatically superior and expands even further in later installments of the franchise.
