Top Fastest Digimon Ranked – From Hypersonic to Light-Speed Beings

Despite all the adorable little monsters we meet in the Digimon franchise, these creatures born from digital eggs can reach absurd levels of power, speed, durability, and even reality manipulation — rivaling gods themselves, with some even worshiped as divine entities. These Digimon are so powerful that they’ve redefined the limits of the series with their overwhelming abilities.

Part of Digimon’s lasting appeal has always been the idea of a cute rookie Digimon evolving into an unstoppable digital colossus.

Few anime worlds are as rich and diverse as the Digimon universe. Since its 1999 debut with Digimon Adventure and the V-Tamer manga to its latest series Digimon Ghost Game, the franchise has introduced over 1,000 unique Digimon species, many reaching the Mega (Ultimate) level — the pinnacle of digital evolution.

But what brings us here today is one burning question: Who are the fastest Digimon in the entire franchise?

Using official profiles, anime feats, manga statements, novel descriptions, and real-world math, we’ll break down and rank the Top 10 Fastest Digimon with scientific precision and geek-approved logic.

Note: It’s important to clarify that the term “speed” here refers to the ability to travel a measurable distance from point A to point B within a defined time frame.
That is the parameter considered throughout this analysis.

There are other Digimon whose reaction time and agility may reach — or even surpass — the speed of light, but those cases will be explored in a future ranking dedicated specifically to reaction speed.

Prelude

Before diving into the top rankings, it’s helpful to look at some examples from our real world to gain perspective on the incredible speeds of the Digimon featured on this list.

The fastest jet-powered aircraft ever built is the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, capable of reaching a top speed of 1,120 m/s (Mach 3.3). At that velocity, it could cross the Atlantic Ocean (7,600 km) in about 115 minutes — an impressive feat considering that a commercial airliner would take more than 9 hours on a direct flight.

Other vehicles have reached hypersonic levels of speed as well, such as the Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2, which can achieve 5,800 m/s (Mach 20); NASA’s X-43, with a top speed of 3,260 m/s (Mach 9.6); and the North American X-15, which reached 2,0278 m/s (Mach 6.7).

Wingdramon - The Sonic Roar

Wingdramon, a Perfect-level Dragon-type Digimon, is capable of extreme high-speed flight. According to its official profile, its top velocity reaches approximately Mach 20, or about 6,800 m/s — fast enough to traverse the distance between New York (United States) and Lisbon (Portugal) in just 13 minutes, or to circle the entire planet in roughly 98 minutes

In physical terms, this places Wingdramon’s flight capabilities near the edge of aerothermal limits, where air friction and plasma formation become critical factors — a level of speed usually reserved for hypersonic missiles and orbital vehicles.

10

Wargreymon - Golden Dragon Warrior (Digimon Adventure)

One of the most iconic Digimon on this list — and a cornerstone of many childhoods — is WarGreymon. But this ranking isn’t about nostalgia; it’s about pure speed. What earns WarGreymon his place here is the incredible velocity displayed during his battle against BlackWarGreymon in Digimon Adventure 02. In that fight, WarGreymon covered the distance from Gotemba City, Japan, all the way to the nearest coastline in roughly four seconds, while also reaching an altitude nearly twice the height of Mount Fuji (3,667 meters). Although the episode doesn’t specify the exact direction or total distance traveled, we can make a reasonable estimate using real-world geography:

  •  Gotemba → Suruga Bay (near Numazu): ≈ 30 km in a straight line
  •  Gotemba → Sagami Bay (near Odawara or Atami): ≈ 35 km in a straight line

That places WarGreymon’s estimated velocity between 7500 m/s (Mach 22) and 8750 m/s (Mach 25) — well within the hypersonic range. For comparison, at those speeds, WarGreymon could cross the entire United States from coast to coast in just 15–18 minutes.

Shoutmon X5 - Ruler of the Skies (Digimon Xros Wars)

Among the Perfect-level Digimon, there’s one that stands out due to its unique fusion — Shoutmon X5, a Digixros formed by five Digimon: Shoutmon, Dorulumon, Ballistamon, Sparrowmon, and the Starmons. Partnered with Kudou Taiki and Nene Amano, this Digimon earns its spot on the list thanks to data from two reliable sources.

The first is its official profile, which states that Shoutmon X5 can reach the stratosphere using its flight speed to perform its signature attack, Meteor Strike, crashing down on its opponent like a falling meteor. The second source comes from the Digimon Xros Wars anime, where we can observe the time it takes for this feat to happen.

Combining both pieces of information, we can estimate its speed. The stratosphere, according to NASA, begins around 50 km above the ground. Since Shoutmon X5 must first ascend and then dive back down for the attack, the total distance covered is roughly 100 km.

In episode 21, we can see this sequence take about 7 seconds to complete. This gives us an estimated speed of 14,285 m/s (Mach 42) — comparable to meteoroid or asteroid speeds in space. At that velocity, Shoutmon X5 could cross the entire Atlantic Ocean in just 8 minutes.

8

Imperialdramon - The Dragon Emperor (Digimon Adventure 02)

Another mighty dragon-type Digimon joins the ranking: Imperialdramon Dragon Mode, the Mega form of Paildramon, partnered with Motomiya Daisuke (Davis) and Ichijouji Ken in Digimon Adventure 02.

What earns Imperialdramon a spot on this list is one of his most impressive feats — circumnavigating the globe in what Genai described as less than 30 minutes.

Based on the anime’s depiction, Imperialdramon’s route included the following legs:

  •  Odaiba → Paris: 9,716 km
  •  Paris → Hong Kong: 9,620 km
  •  Hong Kong → Sydney: 7,371 km
  •  Sydney → Moscow: 14,478 km
  •  Moscow → Miami: 9,217 km
That’s a total flight distance of approximately 50,402 km around the planet.

Although the anime never specifies his exact flight duration between stops or his landing intervals to drop off the DigiDestined, using Genai’s 30-minute statement as a lower estimate gives a speed of 28,000 m/s (Mach 82).

If we assume Imperialdramon spent 1 minute landing and taking off at each of the five stops — reducing his total flight time to 25 minutes — his average speed would increase to 33,601 m/s (Mach 98).

That puts Imperialdramon Dragon Mode squarely in the high-hypersonic range, capable of circling the globe faster than most modern spacecraft!.

7

Garummon - Beast Warrior of Light (Digimon Frontier)

From this point onward, we leave behind the “relatively slow” Digimon and step into the realm of hypersonic titans — beings capable of reaching thousands of Mach, approaching fractions of light itself.

Garummon, the Beast-type DigiSpirit of Light, possesses immense power — and above all, extraordinary speed. According to the data, it can cross the distance between one of the moons and the Digital World in just a few seconds. The challenge lies in determining the exact distance covered.

Using Google Earth mapping and image overlay analysis, the estimated distance between the moon and the Digital World is about 17,902 km. However, Garummon’s path is interrupted by the gravitational barrier protecting the Digital World, meaning it likely traveled only half that distance — approximately 8,951 km in 7 seconds.

This translates to a velocity of roughly 78,714 m/s, or Mach 3,760. With this, we make a colossal leap in scale — from fast Digimon to those whose speed begins to rival orbital mechanics themselves.

6

Satellamon -  Cosmic Raider (Digimon Universe App Monster)

The first Appmon to appear on this list — and though it might not seem like it at first — performs one of the most impressive speed feats in this adaptation of Digimon, and possibly in the entire Digimon franchise. This happens in episode 32, where Satellamon travels into outer space within seconds, reaching an altitude high enough to see all of Japan as a tiny shape beneath him.

But just how far did he travel, and how fast was he moving? To determine this, we can use Google Earth by overlaying a screenshot from the anime onto the map of Japan to estimate a realistic distance. From this analysis, the distance from Satellamon’s perspective is approximately 7,211 km, and it takes him only 2 seconds to cover it.

That gives Satellamon an incredible speed of 3,605,500 m/s (Mach 10,604). At this velocity, Satellamon could circle the entire Earth in roughly 11 seconds, making this one of the fastest feats ever displayed by a Digimon across any series.

5

Shinegreymon - The Radiant Dragon Warrior (Digimon Saver)

Enter ShineGreymon, one of the main Digimon partners of Masaru Daimon in Digimon Savers (Digimon Data Squad in the English dub*). What secures his place in this ranking is a stunning speed feat — surpassing the velocity of Yggdrasil’s crystal projectiles by a factor of five to ten.

This occurs in Episode 47, when Yggdrasil launches energy crystals toward Kristy, Masaru’s younger sister, from a distance of several dozen meters. ShineGreymon rushes in, covering hundreds of meters in an instant to intercept the attack.

But how fast are those crystals? Surprisingly, it’s easier to estimate than it sounds. The crystals travel from Mount Fuji (Japan) all the way to Paris (France) in just six seconds — a distance of 9,734 km, which equals a speed of 1,622,333 m/s (Mach 4,770).

Since ShineGreymon outpaces them by 5 to 10 times, his estimated velocity ranges between 8,111,666 m/s (Mach 23,857) and 16,223,333 m/s (Mach 47,715) — speeds that push into the relativistic range.

To put that in perspective, ShineGreymon could circle the entire Earth in just 2.5 to 5 seconds

4

Rinkmon - Spinning Cutter

The First Armor-level Digimon to appear in this ranking, Rinkmon stands out for one simple reason — pure speed. While it never appeared in any anime or manga showcasing its full power, its official profile makes a jaw-dropping statement:

Rinkmon can accelerate up to 98% of the speed of light, reaching an incredible 294,000,000 m/s.

However, it’s important to remember that this speed represents its maximum potential. Rinkmon must still accelerate to reach that velocity, meaning it doesn’t instantly move at near-light speed. Because of this limitation, it ranks lower on the list… but still far beyond anything most Digimon could ever hope to match.

3

Pegasusmon (X Antibody) The Flying Hope and Surfimon arrogant lone wolf

Pegasusmon X-Antibody

Surfimon

A shared spot between two extraordinary Digimon — one an Armor-level empowered by the X-Antibody, and the other a Mega-level dragon. Both share a unique trait: their official profiles describe their ability to hyper-accelerate and reach the speed of light — 299,792,458 m/s.

At this unimaginable velocity, they could circle the Earth seven times in just one second. However, just like Rinkmon, this speed isn’t instantaneous. They must first build up momentum, meaning it takes them a short but crucial moment to reach light speed.

Because of that, in a head-to-head race or close combat scenario, they could actually be outpaced by Digimon with lower maximum speeds but instant acceleration. Still, the fact that they can physically approach the limits of physics itself earns them a well-deserved place among the fastest beings in the Digital World.

2

Metallicdramon - Light Dragon

A Mega-level Digimon that, according to its official profile, can instantly reach the speed of light — and sustain it for an indefinite period of time. It achieves this through its wings, which release stabilizing particles that maintain the structural balance of the Digital World itself.

Because of this unimaginable velocity, no being has ever visually confirmed its true form. This extraordinary ability to not only reach but sustain light-speed is what allows it to surpass all previous high-speed Digimon, even those classified within the same velocity tier.

1

MagnaGarurumon - The Great Wolf of Light (Digimon Frontier)

MagnaGarurumon, the fusion of five Digi-Spirits — including the Digi-Spirit of Light — wields the combined elemental power of them all.

According to its official profile, it is the only Digimon capable of surpassing the speed of light, an ability with profound implications for physics itself.

Reaching even the speed of light would theoretically require infinite energy, yet MagnaGarurumon transcends that boundary effortlessly.  At such superluminal velocities, escaping the gravitational pull of black holes or traveling between planets and stars becomes trivial.

However, according to tachyonic hypotheses, exceeding light speed could cause the Digimon’s velocity to become negative, meaning time would no longer flow in normal causal order.
From an external observer’s perspective, MagnaGarurumon might arrive before departing, seemingly moving backward through time — a direct violation of causality.

This effect could lead to the formation of Closed Timelike Curves (CTCs), where cause and effect merge, creating localized disruptions in the space-time continuum. Regions of “inverted light cones” might appear, where the past and future exchange roles, and the very concept of “before” or “after” loses meaning.

In simpler terms, the space-time around MagnaGarurumon would collapse into a temporal paradox, warping reality itself.  Furthermore, such motion would produce gravitational distortions so intense that it could generate massive gravitational waves, or even micro black holes if the energy density became high enough.

Considering all this, it’s no wonder MagnaGarurumon ranks among the most powerful and physically impossible Digimon ever conceived.
